Linzi attended the conference at Aston University and also did a presentation on the importance of neurophysio for people with transverse myelitis. The conference was extremely informative. Dr Allen DeSena from Cincinnati lectured on Rehabilitation and TM along with other UK speakers specialising in TM. There was a lot of information on the medical management of TM but also incorporated the importance of other members of the rehab team including neurophysio’s. There is increasing evidence of the importance of exercise in neurorehabilitation and the importance of posture and movement. This is extremely important for people with TM as it helps redirect and restructure neuronal connections in the spinal cord to help control muscle spasms and spasticity and also to improve sensory problems. The TM society offer bursarys for initial assessments and follow up for neurophysio which many members have used and found beneficial.
